This poem was the title work of a book of poems by Madison J. Cawein. The music, scored for SAATBB a cappella, is in the style of cluster chord writing and utilizes block chord technique; however, many of the voicings are more in tune with jazz than classical-style writing. Dynamic variation is used to convey the emotion and underscore the meaning of the text, which concerns the affections for a love interest the subject calls “Beauty.” Recorded in March 2011 in St. Patrick's Old Cathedral in New York City. The Garden of Dreams was awarded as Winner of the International Music Prize for Excellence in Composition 2011 in Thessoliniki, Greece, and it was selected as a Semi-Finalist in the 2015 American Prize for Excellence in Composition.
